#PadresOnDeck: Fernando Tatis Jr., Luis Urías, Buddy Reed Represent Padres in Sunday’s Futures Game

Three Padres’ prospects will play in the annual Futures Game lead-in to Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game Sunday night Washington, D.C.

Shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., the Padres’ top prospect according to MLB Pipeline, and №4 prospect second baseman Luis Urías (Triple-A El Paso) will play for the World Team and could form a double-play combination that the Padres are hoping is part of their future.

Outfielder Buddy Reed, who was recently promoted from Advanced Single-A Lake Elsinore to Double-A San Antonio, will play for Team USA. Tatis Jr. also plays for San Antonio while Urías is with Triple-A El Paso.

In action Saturday night:

— Second baseman Ruddy Giron (.231) was 5-for-6 with three doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored for Lake Elsinore while Hudson Potts, Allen Córdoba and Luis Torrens each had three RBIs for the Storm.

— Potts, 19, the Padres’ №15 prospect, was 2-for-3 with two walks and a run scored to raise his batting average to .269. Torrens (.281) was 3-for-5 with a run scored. Córdoba (.200) had a double and a home run in five at-bats.

Austin Allen

— Two Padres Top-30 prospects homered in four at-bats for San Antonio and also drew a walk. Left fielder Josh Naylor, 21, hit №13 and is batting .318 for the Missions. Catcher Austin Allen, the Padres’ №27 prospect, hit a two-run shot for №17 and is batting .300.

— Infielder Cory Spangenberg (.304) was 3-for-7 with a double and a homer as El Paso was swept in a doubleheader.

Around the Farm:

TRIPLE-A EL PASO (50–43): Reno 7–4, CHIHUAHUAS 3–1–2B Dusty Coleman (.197) backed Spangenberg, going 2-for-5 with a double, a homer and a walk. LF Auston Bousfield (.269) had a double in three at-bats with a stolen base and a walk. 1B Allen Craig (.293) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a RBI. LF Shane Peterson (.271) was 1-for-3 with a walk. C Brett Nicholas (.295) was 1-for-5. CF Matt Szczur (.250) was 0-for-4 with a sacrifice fly and two walks. 1B-3B Diego Goris (.255) was 1-for-6 with a run scored. RF Forrestt Allday (.309) was 1-for-7. RHP Chris Huffman (3–5, 6.91 earned run game) started the first game and allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts in five innings to take the loss. LHP Brad Wieck (9.00) allowed two runs on two hit and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings. RHP Colin Rea (5.04) started the second game and allowed two hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings. RHP Erik Johnson (0–1, 15.00) allowed four runs on four hits with three strikeouts in the sixth inning to take the loss. RHP Robert Stock (1.65) struck out one in a perfect inning.

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (11–10, 53–38): FRISCO 8, Missions 4–3B Ty France (.258) backed Naylor and Allen, going 2-for-5 with a run scored. 1B Kyle Overstreet (.270) was 2-for-4. CF Michael Gettys (.243) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. DH Peter Van Gansen (.263) was 1-for-3 with a walk. 2B Eguy Rosario (.125) was 1-for-4 with a RBI. SS Matthew Batten (.282) was 1-for-5. Starting RHP Cal Quantrill (6–5, 4.76 ERA) allowed seven runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts in four innings to take the loss. RHP Trevor Frank (2.11) allowed a hit in a scoreless inning. RHP Jason Jester (4.10) allowed a hit with a strikeout in an inning. RHP Gerardo Reyes (3.57) allowed a run on three hits with a strikeout in an inning. RHP Eric Yardley (2.67) allowed two hits in a scoreless inning.

ADVANCED SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (10–14, 44–50): Storm 11, LANCASTER 4 — CF Nate Easley (.265) backed Giron, Potts, Torrens and Córdoba, going 2-for-6 with two runs scored. DH Marcus Greene Jr. (.264) was 2-for-5 with a run scored. SS Chris Baker (.232) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. RF Jorge Oña (.233) had a double in five at-bats with a run scored. Starting RHP Emmanuel Ramirez (5–3, 5.08 ERA) allowed three runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings to get the win. RHP Elliot Ashbeck (2.40) allowed a run on two hits with three strikeouts in three innings to record his fourth save.

SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (12–11, 44–48): PEORIA 4, TinCaps 0 — SS Gabriel Arias (.217) was 2-for-3 with a walk. LF Jack Suwinski (.220) was 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base. DH Robbie Podorsky (.352) was 1-for-5. Starting LHP Aaron Leasher (5–4, 3.08 ERA) allowed four runs on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings to take the loss. RHP Austin Smith (2.51) pitched three perfect innings.

SHORT-SEASON SINGLE-A TRI-CITY (13–16): HILLSBORO 7, Dust Devils 6 (11 innings) — RF Tre Carter (.244) was 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and a RBI. 2B Olivier Basabe (.324) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. DH Michael Curry (.253) was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI. C Blake Hunt (.263) was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. 1B Luis Asuncion (.210) was 1-for-5 with a RBI. 3B Luke Becker (.242) had a double in five at-bats. SS Owen Miller (.333) was 1-for-6 with a RBI. Starting LHP Ramon Perez (3.60 ERA) allowed three runs on four hits and two walks with a strikeout in one-third of an inning. RHP Jonathan Guzman (4.26) allowed a run on a hit and a walk with four strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings. RHP Gabe Mosser (3.95) allowed two hits with two walks in two scoreless innings. RHP Diomar Lopez (2.63) allowed a hit with four strikeouts in two scoreless innings. LHP Dan Dallas (0.56) issued a walk with two strikeouts in an otherwise perfect inning. RHP Joe Galindo (3.48) allowed un unearned run on a hit and two walks with two strikeouts in two innings. RHP Nick Kuzia (0–2, 4.80) allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks in one-third of an inning to take the loss.

DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE PADRES (21–15): The Padres were off Saturday for the Dominican Summer League’s All-Star Game break.

ARIZONA ROOKIE PADRES: Padres-1 4, PADRES-2 0:

PADRES-1 (7–12): Starting LHP Omar Cruz (1.80 ERA) allowed three hits and two walks with nine strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings. RHP Tom Colletti (1–0, 1.50) struck out three in 2 2/3 perfect innings to get the win. RHP Reiss Knehr (3.00) issued a walk with two strikeouts in two otherwise perfect innings to get his first save. 2B Lee Solomon (.292) was 2-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. LF Greg Lambert (.333) was 3-for-4 with a home run. 3B Luis Guzman (.239) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. RF Agustin Ruiz (.225) was 1-for-4 with a run scored. SS Reinaldo Ilarraza (.227) had a double in four at-bats.

PADRES-2 (10–11): 2B Tucupita Marcano (.286) was 2-for-4. DH Jonny Homza (.241) was 1-for-2 with a walk. Starting RHP Jeferson Garcia (1–1, 6.89) allowed a run on six hits with three strikeouts over four innings to suffer the loss. RHP Mason Fox (9.95) struck out two in two perfect innings. LHP Hazahel Quijada (4.46) struck out three in two perfect innings. RHP Vijay Miller (8.25) allowed three runs on four hits with two strikeouts in an inning.
