PADRES ON DECK: Triple-A El Paso Rallies From 15–1 Deficit to Win; RHPs Lowe, Bergert Sharp

Down 15–1 going into the bottom of the first Saturday night, Triple-A El Paso staged the biggest comeback in franchise history, scoring 16 unanswered runs to defeat Las Vegas 17–16.

The Chihuahuas scored two run in the fourth inning, fifth in the fifth and nine in the seventh.

Left fielder Graham Pauley (.226), the Padres №6 prospect, was 2-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Right-handed reliever Alek Jacob, the Padres’ №15 prospect, issued two walks with a strikeout in 2 1/3 scoreless innings to lower his earned run average to 7.76.

Left-handed Chihuahuas starter Jackson Wolf (7.07 ERA), the Padres’ №14 prospect, gave up nine runs on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.

Right-hander Isaiah Lowe (3–2, 3.32 ERA), the Padres’ №19 prospect, gave up one run on nine hits and no walks with eight strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings of relief Saturday to earn the win for Single-A Lake Elsinore.

Catcher J.D. Gonzalez (.193), the Padres’ №12 prospect, was 2-for-2 with a walk, a sacrifice fly, two RBIs and a run scored. Shortstop Leodalis De Vries (.221), the Padres’ №4 prospect, had a double in 4 at-bats with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored.

Right-handed starter Ryan Bergert (1–5, 5.48 ERA), the Padres’ №7 prospect, gave up two runs on three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over five innings Saturday for Double-A San Antonio to earn the win. Left-hander Javien Sandridge (3.38 ERA) gave up a run on two hits and a walk with a strikeout over 1 1/3 innings to earn his fourth save for the Missions.

Two pitching prospects struggled for High Single-A Fort Wayne. Right-handed starter Dylan Lesko (1–4, 7.34 ERA), the Padres’ №3 prospect, gave up seven runs on eight hits and two walks with six strikeouts in four innings to take the loss. Right-hander Bradgley Rodriguez (4.58) gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 2 hits and a walk in an inning.

Catcher Ethan Salas (.196), the Padres’ №1 prospect, was 0-for-2 with 2 walks and a run scored for the TinCaps. Center fielder Homer Bush Jr. (.269), the Padres’ №8 prospect, was 2-for-5. Third baseman Jay Beshears (.256), the Padres’ №27 prospect, was 0-for-5 with a run.

AROUND THE FARM:

TRIPLE-A EL PASO (26–36) — CHIHUAHUAS 17, Las Vegas 16: 1B Nate Mondou (.281) was 3-for-5 with a home run, 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored behind Pauley. DH-C Brett Sullivan (.286) was 2-for-4 with a walk, 2 RBIs and a run. C Chandler Seagle (.211) was 2-for-4 with 2 runs. 3B Eguy Rosario (.313) had a double in 3 at-bats with 2 walks, 2 RBIs and 3 runs. CF Bryce Johnson (.288) was 2-for-4 with a triple, 2 RBIs, a walk and a run. SS Mason McCoy (.236) was 1-for-4 with a walk and 2 runs. 2B Matthew Batten (.272) was 0-for-3 with 2 walks, 2 RBIs and 3 runs. RF Oscar Mercado (.234) was 1-for-5 with a RBI and a run. PH Tirso Ornelas (.279), the Padres’ №25 prospect, had a walk and a stolen base. RH Kevin Kopps (5.90 ERA) followed Wolf and gave up 6 runs on 5 hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning. RH Lake Bachar (4–0, 3.82) followed Jacob and gave up a run on 2 hits and a BB with 3 Ks in 1 2/3 IPs to get the win. RH Logan Gillaspie (4.50) allowed a hit in a scoreless IP to earn his second save.

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (25–30) — Missions 4, MIDLAND 3: CF Clay Dungan (.220) was 3-for-4 with a 2-run home run and 2 runs scored. RF Zach Reks (.126) was 2-for-4 with a double. LF Ripken Reyes (.210) was 1-for-4 with a run. RH Robert Milacki (3.86) followed Bergert and allowed a hit in 2 scoreless innings. RH Raul Brito (2.93) allowed a hit and a walk with a strikeout in two-thirds of a scoreless IP.

HIGH SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (24–32) — Peoria 13, TIN CAPS 2: 1B-P Anthony Vilar (.238, 0.00 ERA) was 3-for-4 with a RBI at the plate behind Bush, Salas and Beshears, then allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning. LF Tyler Robertson (.237) was 2-for-4 with a RBI. DH-1B Griffin Doersching (.200) was 1-for-4. LH Mitchell Miller (7.40) followed Lesko and gave up 3 runs on 3 walks with a strikeout in one-third of an IP. LH Ryan Och (5.09) gave up 2 hits and a BB with 2 Ks in 2 2/3 IPs.

SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (28–26) — Storm 8, INLAND EMPIRE 3: 2B Chase Valentine (.314) was 2-for-3 with a sacrifice fly, 2 RBIs and a run scored behind Gonzalez and De Vries. 3B Wyatt Hoffman (.227) had a double in 3 at-bats with a walk and 2 runs. DH Ethan Long (.269) had a 2-run double in 5 ABs. RF Jacob Campbell (.235) had a double in 4 ABs with a walk and a run. LF Braedon Karpathios (.232) and 1B Ryan Wilson (.210) were each 0-for-3 with 2 walks and a run. Starting LH Ian Koenig (6.23 ERA) gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and a walk with 4 strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings ahead of Lowe.

ARIZONA COMPLEX LEAGUE PADRES (15–12) — GIANTS 8, Padres 7: RF L.J. Jones (.357) was 2-for-4 with his third homer in as many games with 5 RBIs. DH Addison Kopack (.426) was 2-for-4 with a run.

DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE — GOLD (2–1) 7, Brown (1–2) 3: C Alcides Hernandez (.750) was 2-for-3 with a triple and 4 RBIs. 3B-SS Emil Turbi (.300) was 2-for-3 with a run scored for the winners. DH Kevin Tamburini (.333) was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI for the Brown. LF Moises Valdez (.222) was 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs.
