PADRES ON DECK: Top Prospects Salas, Snelling Were Strong on Tuesday

The Padres’ top two prospects had solid games Tuesday night.

Catcher Ethan Salas, the Padres’ №1 prospect, was 2-for-5 with a double, a RBI and a stolen base for High Single-A Fort Wayne. Earlier in the day, the 18-year-old Salas, who is hitting .195, was selected to play in the July 13 Futures Game that serves as the kick-off to the All-Star Game.

And left-handed starter Robby Snelling, the Padres’ №2 prospect, had one of his best outings of the season, holding Corpus Christi to one run on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over five innings to improve to 2–8 while lowering his earned run average with Double-A San Antonio to 6.14.

Center fielder Homer Bush Jr. (.257), the Padres’ №8 prospect, was 1-for-4 for Fort Wayne with a walk, his Midwest League-leading 37th stolen base and two runs scored. Shortstop Jay Beshears (.247), the Padres’ №27 prospect, hit a solo home run in five at-bats for the TinCaps.

Padres catcher Luis Campusano hit a three-run home run in three at-bats and drew a walk in his second rehab start with Single-A Lake Elsinore. He also caught six innings. Shortstop Leodalis De Vries (.198), the Padres’ №4 prospect, was 1-for-4 with a walk and run scored for the Storm. Third baseman Rosman Verdugo (.239), the Padres’ №23 prospect, was 1-for-4 with a walk and 2 runs.

Catcher Brandon Valenzuela (.257), the Padres’ №11 prospect, was 0-for-2 for San Antonio with three walks and two runs scored.

Second baseman Graham Pauley (.214) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored for Triple-A El Paso. Left fielder Tirso Ornelas (.293), the Padres’ №25 prospect, was 1-for-3 with a RBI. Left-handed starter Jackson Wolf (2–9, 7.71 ERA), the Padres’ №14 prospect, gave up four runs on eight hits and two walks in five innings to suffer the loss for the Chihuahuas.

Designated hitter Lamar King Jr. (.271), the Padres’ №20 prospect, was 1-for-5 with a run scored for the Arizona Complex League Padres.

AROUND THE FARM:

TRIPLE-A EL PASO (34–48) — Albuquerque 5, CHIHUAHUAS 2 (6 ½ innings, rain): 1B Nate Mondou (.281) was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored ahead of Ornelas. C Kevin Plawecki (.252) was 2-for-2. RF Cal Mitchell (.280) had a double in 2 at-bats with a RBI and a walk. CF Jose Azocar (.250) was 1-for-3. 3B Clay Dungan (.271) was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt. RH Lake Bachar (3.55 ERA) followed Wolf and gave up a run on 2 hits and 2 walks with 3 strikeouts in 2 innings.

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (6–2, 37–39) — Missions 8, CORPUS CHRISTI 1: 1B Robbie Tenerowicz (.246) had a 3-run home run in 5 at-bats behind Valenzuela. LF Cole Cummings (.252) was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. DH Juan Zabala (.214) was 3-for-4 with a RBI and a stolen base. 2B Ripken Reyes (.219) was 2-for-5 with a run. SS Ray-Patrick Didder (.217) was 0-for-1 with a sacrifice fly, 2 walks, a stolen base and a run. LH Ryan Och (1.29 ERA) followed Snelling and gave up a hit and a walk with 5 strikeouts in 2 scoreless innings. RH Francis Pena (1.72) allowed a hit with a K in a scoreless IP.

HIGH SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (4–7; 32–45) — TinCaps 5, LANSING 0: 3B Anthony Vilar (.258) was 4-for-5 with a double and a home run for 2 RBIs behind Salas and Beshears. 1B Romeo Sanabria (.297) was 2-for-3 with 2 walks and a run scored. RH starter Enmanuel Pinales (2–6, 3.55 ERA) allowed 2 hits and 2 walks with 5 strikeouts in 6 scoreless innings. RH Dwayne Matos (5.19) allowed a hit with a K in a scoreless IP. RH Manuel Castro (4.13) completed the shutout, giving up a hit with 2 Ks in 2 scoreless IPs.

SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (6–5, 38–37) — Inland Empire 10, STORM 8: LF Jacob Campbell (.261) was 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored behind De Vries and Verdugo. DH Braedon Karpathios (.222) was 3-for-5 with a double, 2 RBIs and a run. 1B Ethan Long (.250) had a 2-run double in 5 at-bats with a run. RF Jose Sanabria (.220) had a RBI double in 4 ABs. 2B Chase Valentine (.257) was 1-for-4 with a run. Starting LH Luis Gutierrez (5.60 ERA) gave up 6 runs on 7 hits and a walk with 4 strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. RH Alejandro Lugo (3.42) gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and 3 BBs with 3 Ks in 2 2/3 IPs. LH Javier Chacon (3–1, 3.69) gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and 3 BBs with 4 Ks in 2 2/3 IPs to take the loss.

ARIZONA COMPLEX LEAGUE PADRES (19–24) — C Colton Vincent (.329) was 4-for-4 with a double, 3 RBIs, a hit-by-pitch and a run scored behind King. SS B.Y. Choi (.264) was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, a RBI and a run. 1B Carlos Rodriguez (.240) was 2-for-5 with a RBI and a run. CF Spence Coffman (.326) was 1-for-3 with a walk, a HBP and a run.

DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE PADRES GOLD (10–10) — Rained out vs. Cubs, make up on Friday (July 5).
