PADRES ON DECK: RHPs Braden Nett, Gabe Mosser Turn in Strong Starts; Ornelas Hits 3-Run Home Run for AAA-El Paso
The Padres’ higher-echelon affiliates got strong starting efforts from right-handed pitchers Braden Nett and Gabe Mosser Friday night.
Nett, the Padres’ №20 prospect, gave up one run on four hits and five walks with three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings in his debut with Double-A San Antonio.
Mosser allowed an unearned run on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts over six innings to earn the win for Triple-A El Paso — evening his record at 7–7 while lowering his earned run average to 5.51.
Left-handed reliever Jayvien Sandridge (4.75 ERA), the Padres’ №22 prospect, followed Mosser and allowed a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in an inning for El Paso. Right-handed reliever Francis Pena (6.17), the Padres’ №13 prospect, finished the game by striking out the only two hitters he faced.
Designated hitter Tirso Ornelas, the Padres’ №18 prospect, continued his late-season run at El Paso, going 2-for-5 with a three-run home run. It was his 21st home run. Catcher Luis Campusano was 1-for-5 with a run scored for the Chihuahuas. First baseman Kevin Plawecki (.258) was 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double, five RBIs and 3 runs scored.

SS Eguy Rosario (.264) was 2-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, a RBI and a run. 3B Jose Sanabria (.231) had a double in 4 at-bats with a walk, a stolen base and a run. RF Cal Mitchell (.269) was 1-for-4 with a walk and 2 runs. CF Connor Hollis (.333) was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a walk and a hit-by-pitcher. SS Ripken Reyes (.225) had a 2-run double in 3 at-bats with a walk. 2B Marcos Castañon (.221) was 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly and 2 RBIs. CF Joshua Mears (.148) had a solo home run in 4 at-bats. 3B Lucas Dunn (.188) was 1-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch and a run. RF Robert Perez Jr. (.224) was 1-for-4. C Anthony Vilar (.135) was 0-for-2 with 2 walks, a stolen base and 2 runs.
