PADRES ON DECK: De Vries gets first professional hits, Head continues run of 2-hit games, Marsee heating up

Seventeen-year-old shortstop Leodalis De Vries, the Padres’ №5 prospect, got his first two hits in his second professional game Wednesday, going 2-for-4 with Single-A Lake Elsinore with a double, a walk, a stolen base and a run scored.

Center fielder Dillon Head, 19, the Padres’ №6 prospect, had his fifth two-hit game in his last six starts for the Storm, going 2-for-5 with a double, a RBI and a run scored to raise his batting average to .279.

Center fielder Jakob Marsee (.182), the Padres’ №9 prospect, was 2-for-4 with a double and a sacrifice bunt for Double-A San Antonio. First baseman Nathan Martorella (.313), the Padres’ №14 prospect, was 1-for-3 with a walk, a sacrifice fly, a stolen base and a run scored. Catcher Brandon Valenzuela (.229), the Padres’ №17 prospect, had a double in three at-bats with a walk and two runs.

Left-handed starting pitcher Austin Krob, the Padres’ №15 prospect, gave up five runs on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings as his earned run average with San Antonio climbed to 6.28.

Catcher-designated hitter Ethan Salas (.216), the Padres’ №1 prospect, was 1-for-6 as High Single-A Fort Wayne was swept in a doubleheader by Great Lakes. Center fielder Homer Bush Jr. (.191), the Padres’ №11 prospect, was 0-for-5 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored. Left-handed starter Jagger Haynes (0–2, 21.21 ERA), the Padres’ №24 prospect, gave up four runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings in the opening game.

AROUND THE FARM:

TRIPLE-A EL PASO (10–13) — TACOMA 2, Chihuahuas 0: C Brett Sullivan (.382) had 2 doubles in 3 at-bats with a walk. PH-LF Tirso Ornelas (.226) was 2-for-3. LF Cal Mitchell (.286) was 1-for-1 with a stolen base. 1B Nate Mondou (.265) was 1-for-4. CF Bryce Johnson (.237) had a double in 5 at-bats. 3B Clay Dungan (.273) was 1-for-5. Starting LH Jackson Wolf (0–3, 7.36 ERA) allowed 1 run on 5 hits and 3 walks with 4 strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings to suffer the loss. RH Nick Hernandez (5.14) allowed an unearned run on a hit and a BB with 2 Ks in 1 1/3 IP. RH Sean Reynolds (9.64) issued a BB with a K in an otherwise perfect IP. LH Austin Davis (5.19) struck out the side in a perfect eighth.

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (10–7) — MISSIONS 9, Wichita 7: LF Zach Reks (.178) homered in 4 at-bats with 4 RBIs behind Marsee, Martorella and Valenzuela. RF Robert Perez Jr. (.204) was 1-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored. 3B Connor Hollis (.250) was 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and a hit-by-pitch. 2B Ripken Reyes (.222) was 1-for-4 with a HBP and 2 runs. DH Cole Cummings (.258) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. SS Ray-Patrick Didder (.190) was 1-for-4. RH Reggie Lawson (6.75 ERA) followed Krob and issued 2 walks with 2 strikeouts in 1 2/3 hitless, scoreless innings. RH Yovanny Cruz (1–0, 4.91) issued a walk with a K in an otherwise perfect IP to earn the win. RH Carter Loewen (5.14) gave up 2 hits and a BB with 2 Ks in two-thirds of an IP. LH Omar Cruz (2.61) gave up a run on a hit and a BB with 2 Ks in 1 1/3 IPs to earn his first save.

HIGH SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (8–8) — Great Lakes 11–5, TIN CAPS 1–1: RF Tyler Robertson (.239) had a RBI double in 6 at-bats behind Salas and Bush. SS Nik McClaughry (.147) had a RBI double in 2 ABs. 2B Jarryd Dale (.304) was 1-for-3 with a run scored. 3B Devin Ortiz (.311) was 1-for-2 with a walk. 2B Nerwillian Cedeno (.186) was 1-for-2 with a walk. RH Manuel Castro (7.11) followed Haynes in the first game and gave up 5 runs (2 earned) on 2 hits and 2 walks with 2 strikeouts in an inning. RH David Morgan (11.05) gave up 2 runs on a hit and 2 BBs with 2 Ks in 1 1/3 IPs. RH Tyler Morgan (1.64) issued a BB with 2 Ks in 2 otherwise perfect IPs.
