FriarNotes: Machado, Merrill, Profar Powering Padres’ 22–6 Run Since the All-Star Break

Manny Machado’s 20th home run of the season Tuesday night was his 158th as a Padre.

Machado is now third on the Padres’ all-time list of home run leaders — trailing only all-time leader Nate Colbert (163) and Adrian Gonzalez (161). Machado also has 504 RBIs as a Padre — moving him past Gonzalez into fourth on the all-time list at 504.

In 27 games since the All-Star break, Machado has hit .273 (30-for-110) with eight doubles, seven home runs, 21 RBIs and 17 runs scored for a .317 on-base percentage and a .536 slugging percentage for a .853 OPS.

Rookie center fielder Jackson Merrill has been even hotter in his 27 games since the All-Star break — hitting .327 (33-for-101) with nine doubles, four triples, five home runs, 23 RBIs and 22 runs scored for a .351 on-base percentage and a 644 slugging percentage for a .995 OPS.

Not to be out-done, Jurickson Profar has six doubles, six home runs and 17 RBIs since the All-Star break.

Between them, Machado, Merrill and Profar have 18 home runs and 61 RBIs in 28 games since the All-Star break. The Padres have gone 22–6 since the All-Star break.

NOTES:

— RHP Jason Adam has made nine, one-inning scoreless appearances since joining the Padres. Over the nine innings, he has gone 3–0 with two holds while allowing five hits and a walk with 13 strikeouts. He has retired 16 of the last 17 hitters he has faced. As a Padre, he has a 0.00 earned run average and a 0.667 WHIP while lowering his season ERA from 2.49 to 2.09. He has a 13-to-1 strikeouts-to-walk ratio as a Padre.

— RHP Bryan Hoeing has a 0.79 ERA and a 0.794 WHIP in his seven appearances as a Padre — giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and four walks with six strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings. While with the Padres, his ERA has fallen from 2.70 to 2.18.

— LHP Yuki Matsui has made scoreless appearances in 12 of his last 14 outings dating back to July 9 — giving up three runs on 10 hits and no walks with 18 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings for a 1.72 ERA and a 0.638 WHIP.

— LHP Martín Pérez was not his sharpest Tuesday night against the Twins, giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. However, the Padres are 4–0 in Perez’s first four starts with San Diego. As a Padre, Pérez has given up seven runs on 18 hits and four walks with 23 strikeouts in 23 innings for a 2.74 ERA and a 0.957 WHIP.
